Development projects are initiated in response to industry requests and undertaken in collaboration with industry, iwi and hapū Māori and training providers. They ensure that ākonga (learners) are equipped with the knowledge, skills and attributes needed to succeed in the sector.

All qualifications and standards have been updated on NZQA’s system and you can find out which ones have been transferred to Muka Tangata by searching NZQA’s website:
Over time, skill standards will replace unit standards as the core components of vocational programmes. VET participants (including iwi and hapū Māori, industry and providers) will have the opportunity to contribute to the development of skill standards where they have interest in the subject area. When unit standards are replaced, this will be communicated to providers with existing consent to assess, and there will be time to update existing programmes to reflect new skill standards.

To ensure timely processing of pre-moderation, consent to assess, microcredential support and programme endorsement applications before the disestablishment of Muka Tangata, we encourage providers to submit all relevant assessment materials and applications by October 3, 2025.
We will continue to process applications after this date, but we cannot guarantee they will be completed before Muka Tangata finishes operations on 19 December 2025. Any in-flight submissions will be handed over to the newly established Industry Skills Board for completion.
We encourage you to contact us at the earliest opportunity if you have any questions about this, or want to discuss any proposed submissions.
