We are happy to share two important reports: Te Whakatōnga – a bespoke approach to deliberately incorporate mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori values into our National Quality Assurance and Moderation activities, and an External Moderation Review, conducted by SAARA.

Te Whakatōnga outlines, identifies and recommends a bespoke approach to deliberately incorporate mātauranga Māori and te ao Māori values into our mahi. The report brings together research evidence and practical examples of te ao and mātauranga Māori in quality assurance and describes successful models of this being used in practice.

“We want to build the cultural competence and ways of working of our team to better advise and support providers to meet the needs of learners”, said Lester Hoare, General Manager Quality Assurance and Enhancement.

SAARA was contracted to review our moderation systems so future national moderation plans would be fit-for-purpose. Industry and providers will be able to use the findings to better understand challenges and opportunities for the food and fibre sector and plan their activities to align.

Recommendations from Te Whakatōnga and the SAARA review have been considered in our National External Quality Assurance and Moderation plan for 2023, and our future mahi, to support providers to meet the needs of industry and ākonga (learners).
