Review of Forestry qualifications 2023

Muka Tangata has launched the review of the suite of Forestry qualifications with a call for expressions of interest to play your part in the review.

Muka Tangata is pleased to announce the launch of the suite of Forestry qualifications, and invites participants to join the review panel. The review will result in a fit for purpose, flexible, and future-proof suite of qualifications for the Forestry industry to ensure ākonga (learners) are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and attributes to succeed. It will streamline qualifications and standards creating greater learning opportunities and pathways for ākonga.

The Forestry review includes the entire suite of Forestry qualifications (levels 2 – 6), including the development of micro-credentials in leadership (level 5). View the current Forestry qualifications: Forestry Certificates and Diplomas.

We are initiating the Forestry qualifications review in direct response to the Forestry Workforce Development Plan, which is available online.

“This plan noted that the existing delivery and assessment of Forestry qualifications didn’t meet industry or learner needs, that the industry struggles to attract people to the sector, and that pastoral care was essential to learner success in the industry” Chief Executive, Jeremy Baker, says. “In response, the plan identifies a need to review the suite of Forestry qualifications to better support appropriate delivery models, support more flexible methods of assessment, and better support learners to succeed”.

Muka Tangata will be leading the consultation, design, and development of the Forestry educational components (qualifications, standards and micro-credentials), working alongside all partners (industry, iwi and Māori, and providers) across our regions to provide an equitable and extensive view.  Muka Tangata will apply the principles of their report, A New Approach to Learner Pathways during this review.
