Muka Tangata provides on-going and side by side tautoko (support) for the tutor, ākonga and kura Kaupapa.

Muka Tangata carries out moderation (pre-assessment and post-assessment), with providers and schools that deliver food and fibre standards Moderation ensures ākonga (learners) have met the required industry standard when they are awarded a Muka Tangata-developed skill standard, qualification or credential.

In December, we carried out desktop post moderation of ākonga samples from Te Kura Kaupapa Māori o te Waiū o Ngāti Porou. And, for the first time, moderation was conducted completely in te reo Māori.

The Aotearoa New Zealand food and fibre sector is host to an array of industries who naturally have a deep interest and ability to deliver in te ao Māori and te reo Māori. This particular kura kaupapa reached out to us to moderate their learner samples in te reo Māori but also to provide them with best practice guidance.

Being able to carry out this moderation in full te reo Māori means we are able to advise on best practice regarding assessment, improving outcomes for ākonga Māori, and foster stronger connections (whanaungatanga) with kura Kaupapa Māori.

Post moderation is a key function of WDCs, and is designed to provide assurance to all interested parties that learners awarded a skill standard can do what the standard requires.
