Agriculture Qualifications Development Project update

Our Agriculture Qualifications Development Project aims to streamline the transition between training levels and enhance the transferability of skills in our agricultural workforce.

Working closely with industry and vocational education partners, we’ve now completed the initial draft qualifications for Levels 3, 4 and 5.

The Calf Rearing Technical Advisory group has now completed drafting two skill standards and one micro-credential at Level 3.

Industry input is invaluable to our Qualification Development Projects. Four Technical Advisory Groups of industry SMEs have been established to help draft skill standards and micro-credentials. These groups are made up of industry experts across arable, sheep, beef, deer, and dairy farming sectors. Beef + Lamb New Zealand, DairyNZ, Deer Industry New Zealand, Federated Farmers, and the Foundation for Arable Research have all contributed time and resource to this project and continue to do so.

Input from across the vocational education sphere is also vital. Our provider Advisory Group consists of AGC Training, Dairy Training Limited, Eastern Institute of Technology, Growing Future Farmers, Land Based Training, National Trade Academy, Primary ITO, QCONZ, Southern Institute of Technology, Toi Ohomai, and UCOL, and has been advising from a provider-perspective since July 2024.

We are now continuing work with industry to finalise all drafts before submitting to NZQA for approval.

A big thank you to everyone who continues to share their time and expertise as part of this project – your mahi will contribute to better training outcomes for industry and ākonga.
