Equine qualifications found to be fit for purpose

In September 2024, targeted consultation was undertaken with industry representatives from Harness Racing NZ, NZ Thoroughbred Racing, and training providers. NZ Thoroughbred Racing also engaged with Equestrian Sports NZ to ensure their feedback was included.

Feedback confirmed strong support for the current qualification suite, with stakeholders noting that the qualifications were fit for purpose and functioning well. As a result, there was no need for a full review at this time, except for one specific qualification (details below).

Further consultation in April 2025 validated the 2024 findings. Industry acknowledged that while trainee numbers remain modest, the demand is steady.

The qualifications were reviewed and found to be fit for purpose, requiring only minor updates. These included transferring content to the current template and assigning new version numbers, updating qualification award details and general conditions for programmes, ensuring consistency, and adding programme endorsement information.

Review and transition dates have now been set for May 2030.
