Get involved: Māori Leadership project

Muka Tangata and the Food and Fibre Centre of Vocational Excellence have launched the Māori Leadership project to enable those developing and delivering leadership programmes to design and implement culturally relevant leadership development opportunities.

Alongside the Food and Fibre Centre of Vocational Excellence, we’re working with HTK Group and Scarlatti to strengthen the recently published Food and Fibre Leadership Framework and ‘A Path to Realising Leadership Potential Guide’ in relation to Māori.

The project aims to enhance these resources by understanding and integrating te ao Māori leadership principles through a kaupapa Māori approach.

The kaupapa of the project is to:

  • Explore te ao Māori perspectives on leadership
  • Identify the differences in how (and perhaps when) specific leadership elements should be applied for Māori in existing resources and make recommendations to address any shortcomings
  • Create a practical guidebook for curriculum and study programme developers to help Māori succeed in leadership.

Contribute to this project

To ensure this mahi is tika and pono, we are seeking kōrero and whakaaro (feedback) from Māori representatives who are at different stages of working and leading in the food and fibre sector: those just starting out, those early in their leadership journey, and our current rangatira (leaders).

This engagement will occur between August and November 2024, through wānanga, one-on-one, or online.

If you want to help shape leadership development in the food and fibre sector in a way that resonates with, engages, and inspires Māori, then we would love to hear from you.
