Have your say on new Irrigation skill standards (Level 4)

We are reviewing and updating standards for the Irrigation industry at Level 4 and Level 5.

The Aotearoa New Zealand education system is transitioning from unit standards to skill standards. Working with industry partners, including Irrigation NZ, we have developed five skill standards at Level 4.

View the draft skill standards below:

Establish irrigation system requirements for commercial use

Manage Irrigation Scheduling and Assess Seasonal Efficiency

Manage Site-Specific Irrigation Systems

Carry out an irrigation system performance assessment

Assess, Interpret and report on irrigation system performance

Plan an irrigation system performance assessment

The pathways map shows how learners could progress through from levels 3-5 in Irrigation: Pathways map.

Have your say

We are now seeking wider industry feedback on the draft skill standards to ensure that we are creating robust and fit-for-purpose standards.

We encourage you to review them and provide your responses via the link: Have your say: Irrigation skill standards.

Please make sure your feedback includes your suggested changes and the reasons for the changes. If we understand the ‘why’ of your feedback we can refine the skill standards so that they meet the needs of the industry.

Please provide your feedback by Wednesday 24 September 2025.
