Successful completion of the Machine Assist Felling project June 23rd, 2025 Muka Tangata, in collaboration with Farman Turkington Forestry and key industry stakeholders, is proud to announce the successful completion of the Machine Assist Felling project. This initiative set out to bridge critical training and skills gaps in the forestry sector by developing robust standards and micro-credentials that elevate the competencies of tree fellers and machine operators. The project focused on crafting Level 3 and Level 4 standards and micro-credentials and sought to ensure that education components aligned with both safety and operational excellence in Machine Assist Felling. The road to success was paved through the efforts of a Technical Advisory Group, whose members significantly contributed by guiding the development process and actively participating in flexible drop-in sessions tailored to their fieldwork schedules. Six skill standards and six micro-credentials were approved by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority for publication. These training components are designed to support learners in acquiring the necessary expertise to thrive in a rapidly changing forestry environment. We extend our gratitude to everyone involved and look forward to seeing the positive impact of this project on the industry.
