2024 Ahuwhenua Awards

The Ahuwhenua awards acknowledge and celebrate Māori excellence in the food and fibre sector of Aotearoa New Zealand where a legacy of hard work, fortitude, and innovation is demonstrated.

Muka Tangata was delighted to attend the 2024 award ceremony on Friday evening. Congratulations to this year’s winners:

  • Wairarapa Moana ki Pouakani Incorporation – winners 2024 Ahuwhenua Trophy for Dairy farming
  • Ben Purua – winner 2024 Young Māori Farmer award

Despite facing the challenge of dyslexia, Purua successfully completed an apprenticeship in Agriculture, and attained Level 3 and 4 qualifications in Dairy Farming. He now uses this knowledge to assist others contending with dyslexia and brain injuries, providing valueable support and guidance to help them fulfil their own training requirements. He also serves as a council member of the Food and Fibre Youth Network and speaks regurlarly to advocate for the importance of nurturing and supporting young talent in the industry.

Muka Tangata understands and recognises the importance of supporting rangatahi to flourish across our industries, as well as having clear examplars of success, and we hope that these awards encourage others to consider a career in the food and fibre sector.
