Muka Tangata has launched two simultaneous qualification development projects for all people, food and fibre Entry Level and Agriculture qualifications, standards and micro-credentials. 

These qualification development projects will build flexible, sustainable, and accessible pathways that support increased availability of skills-based training that are fit-for-purpose for ākonga, employers and providers.

The focus of the Entry Level project is to review the two current Primary Industry entry level qualifications and explore developing additional or alternative qualifications and/or supporting micro-credentials and standards at Level 2 and Level 3 that will strengthen pathways into the people, food and fibre sector of Aotearoa.

The project aims to examine the current and future skills needs of our industries and to improve transferability of those skills between sectors, enabling a wide range of people, including school leavers, career changers, and mature workers to transition into the workforce.

Through the Agriculture project, we will review and develop qualifications, micro-credentials, and standards from Level 3 to Level 5 for Agriculture industries including arable, dairy, sheep, beef, deer, pork, and poultry farming.

We are committed to work in collaboration with industry, iwi Māori, schools, Kura Māori, trades academies, employers, and providers across the regions to develop and design qualifications, standards and micro-credentials, ensuring that a broad view of the needs of the industry are met, and we invite you to support us in this mahi in whatever way you can. These projects are also linked to Te Haumako, our Māori Workforce Development Plan which enacts our commitment to promoting Māori excellence in the food and fibre sector.

The Entry Level and Agriculture qualifications development projects will be supported by our New Approach to Learner Pathways project which is designing a multi-level Food and Fibre Skills Framework to bridge the formal / non-formal learning divide.
